One thing we did like is that towards the end of the installation you are asked whether or not you want to protect yourself from PUP’s (Potentially Unwanted Programs). PUPs are applications that are usually bundled with and installed alongside other programs. Although these programs are not a security risk, they can affect a computers performance and speed, especially browser speed.

The software looks exactly the same as last year, which isn’t a bad thing, it works. Underneath Emsisoft Anti-Malware 2017 has had a few changes to help improve performance and protection. One thing you may need to know is that the software does not support Windows XP or Vista.
The main user interface (UI) is clean and tidy, with 4 large clickable boxes. Protection, Scan, Quarantine and Logs. There are also text tabs above these boxes for exactly the same items, which seems a bit of a waste of space and time.
The Scan screen is a bit confusing, you have Quick Scan, Malware Scan and the usual Custom Scan. We think someone at Emsisoft must have been a bit overworked as they all scan for malware, so the malware scan should have been named Full Scan.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware 2017 now has zombie protection, this means the software will try and protect your system against hijacking host processes. Ransomware has become an increasing problem for computer users of late. This is where malware encrypts the disk until you hand over a large amount of money to thieves. This latest edition of anti-malware is better at detecting and blocking ransomware.
Web browsing checks look for hosts known for phishing, malware and PUPs. There are four options, allow, block, notify or carry on silently. Websites can be blacklisted.

A nice lightweight, simple and easy to understand user interface. Emsisoft Anti-Malware performed well in tests performed by AV-Comparatives. It works well and is a good price. Perfect for those wanting something cheap with good performance.
